Students learn best in a comfortable, welcoming environment.
When learning history and social studies, each student should, at some point, feel compelled to speak out. This action, however, cannot take place when the student is uncomfortable or does not feel welcome. As your student's History and Social Studies teacher, I feel it is my duty to accommodate each student, regardless of his or her needs.
Students' needs are met in many ways. Some students learn best on their own. Others learn best in group settings. Some students might even learn best when asking questions after class is over or at the end of the school day. Either way, I will utilize a wide variety of approaches to help each student achieve the goals we have set in motion.
I tolerate students of a variety of backgrounds. I personally grew up in a multicultural household; my father is American, while my mother was born and raised in Germany. As a child, I was exposed to different cultural aspects that I continue to cherish to this day. That being said, I respect other people's cultures. Each culture brings something beautiful to the table, including our very own students.
I do NOT tolerate discrimination in the classroom. If your student is experiencing any sort of bullying in the school building, please bring it to the attention of either myself or an administrator. Simple respect is the first step to creating a healthy learning environment.
